When it comes to restoring a damaged or decayed tooth, dental crowns continue to be the preferred treatment. They help fix up the appearance and function of it, but state-of-the-art technology has only made them more convenient. With same-day CEREC crowns, you can get your final restoration within one visit. But how long will that appointment take? Continue reading to find out!

How Is a Same-Day Crown Different from a Traditional One?

The good news is that there isn’t much of a difference. Same-day crowns are just as reliable as their traditional counterpart, but without the need for multiple visits. Instead, a machine in your dentist’s office will sculpt your restoration out of a block of ceramic. That way, you leave the office feeling the best you can.

So, How Long Does A CEREC Crown Take?

In short, the entire process from start to finish can take about two hours. This is a lot easier to fit into your schedule than planning out two separate appointments. Here is how you can expect your visit to go:

  • The first step is preparing your tooth. Your dentist starts by removing any decay and ensuring that the problem is taken care of. After, they will remove a small amount of enamel from the sides of your tooth. This will reshape into sort of a “post,” so that the crown can sit comfortably and help preserve the natural dental structure.
  • Digital impressions are taken with a scanner that creates a 3D model of your mouth.
  • Your crown is designed and then milled in-office. Your dentist makes sure your restoration sits perfectly, and then it’s sculpted out of a block of ceramic. This latter part can take about 30 minutes, but it largely depends on how complex your restoration is.
  • Lastly, your same-day crown is placed. Your provider will double-check the fit and adjust it if needed. Once it’s all good, it’ll get bonded on with a strong cement.

All that’s left is to enjoy your results! You can leave the office with your final restoration, often not needing to come back for another visit soon after. It’s a lot more convenient than a traditional crown, all the while ensuring it’s just as high quality. State-of-the-art technology has made the entire process easier than ever and allows you to get back to a problem-free smile sooner.
